Today we honor Paul Tapner’s upper-level mount Kilronan, a modern great the #EventingFamily lost this week due to a condition that affected his spine and nervous system.
Kilronan consistently delivered competitive dressage scores in his 27 international runs, with an average of 44.1. His career best of 35.2 came at Hopetoun CIC3* in 2015, which he went on to win. He delivered a CCI4* personal best of 36.0 at Badminton in 2014, where he finished 4th.
Kilronan completed 100% of the FEI cross country courses in which he left the start box. The only letter on his record is a W prior to cross country at Gatcombe Park in 2014, just before the World Equestrian Games.
He jumped clear cross country in 92.3% of his international runs and recorded five wins during his career. We talk a lot about FOD — Finishing On Your Dressage Score — and Kilronan achieved one in the penultimate start of his career at Barbury Castle CIC3* in 2016, where he finished 4th on 49.8.
A true Mr. Consistency, Kilronan finished in the top 15 in all but two of his completed three-stars. We will miss him.
