What is the OBP6?

The Opposition Beaten Percentage (OBP) gauges how well you have been putting all three phases together to finish well. It is based on how competitive you have been. Looking at your OBP6 means that you evaluate your competitiveness over your 6 most-recent events.  Sam introduces the OBP6 in this 1-minute video.

How do I calculate the OBP6?

The OBP6 is the total number of opponents (starters) you beat across your last 6 competitions divided by the total number of opponents (starters) you faced at those 6 competitions. It is expressed as a percentage.

NOTES:
  • Only include competitions where you started the XC phase (even if you didn't finish the XC course or the competition)
  • The # STARTERS includes everyone who started the dressage phase with you (it does not matter if they proceeded to XC or not)
  • The # STARTERS YOU BEAT is the # STARTERS minus YOUR FINAL POSITION.
  • Using your past 6 competitions is best but you can use as few as 3.

In this example, your OBP6 of 54% means that you have beaten 54% of your opponents. 54% indicates that you tend to finish in the top half of a class but your retirement in Event 4 did bring your OBP6 down.
